Planing – Acceleration – Top Speed
With the new Cross HR, we have created a new generation in the freeride/freerace segment. It combines the planing performance of a light wind freeride sail with the top speed of a freerace sail.
No criterion was overlooked during development. However, the most important aspects were the revision of the outline and profiling.
The new High-Ratio outline with a shortened boom compared to the mast length not only gave the sail its HR name but also ensures outstanding handling during jibes. The sail rotates almost by itself during shifting. The soft rotation of the battens around the mast also contributes to coming out of a power jibe at full throttle. Thus, the Cross HR also feels right at home on the new shorter boards.
To ensure that no power for planing is lost due to the now shorter boom, we have significantly increased the profile depth in the window area and thereby even gained planing performance. As a result, the HR planes even better than its already strong planing predecessor. After planing, it seamlessly transitions into powerful acceleration. Up to top speed, the sail remains easily controllable at all times. Across the entire wind range, the Cross feels balanced and light in hand. Gusts are converted into additional acceleration and speed. A batten setup with tube battens keeps the draft point permanently in place. Finely tuned loose leech ensures control at the limit.
Due to its slender ratio and the profile placed far forward, the Cross HR is now also excellent for use in foil surfing.
We have opted for a new size grid in the sail line. The two "small" 5.6 m² and 6.0 m² sails remain true to their purpose as freemove sails for maneuver lovers on smaller boards, with a handling-oriented outline and 5 battens.
From size 6.2 m² to 8.2 m², with 6 battens and a freeride outline, it's all about heating things up.
The new sizes allow for interesting design possibilities for the sail quiver.
For example, if you want to replace an old 7.0 Cross, you now have 2 options:
- Either the 6.7m²: It delivers at least the same planing power as the old 7.0m². However, it has significantly better handling.
- Or the 7.2m²: With power close to the old 7.5m² but with the same handling as the old 7.0m².
The new Cross HR. The perfect symbiosis of planing power and top speed across the entire wind range. A dream for every ambitious freerider and freeracer.
