Description
Description
The most important "Wave" fin from Maui Ultra Fins, thanks to its revolutionary design. It is made of very high-quality G10 material. It is incredibly fast and powerful, while having a small surface area. This allows it to turn correspondingly well and cleanly through every "turn". Control is also excellent. It can be used as a "singlefin" or as a center fin in a "thruster setup". Especially suitable for onshore/sideshore conditions or strong winds on flat water.
In contrast to other wave fins, the "X-Wave / X Wave-Carbon" has a more elliptical profile and is significantly less bent backwards. It was assumed that only fins with a lot of backward bend possessed good turning ability. But here, fin designer and founder of Maui Ultra Fins, Rick Hanke, proved the surfing world the opposite by creating this new shape. Because the profile tapers very thinly at the back, even the G10 version has a little flex. Basically, however, the fin is rather harder, meaning it works with little flex. It simply has a lot of power and can be chosen a little smaller than comparable wave fins from other manufacturers. This benefits reactivity and turning ability. The G10 version of the "X-Wave" goes upwind very well and is super fast. Solely due to its hardness, occasional spin-outs can occur when riding a wave if you initiate the cutback with too sudden and too strong pressure. However, until you reach that point, it offers very good grip. That's why Maui Ultra Fins has now also launched a carbon version, so that everyone who loves radical turns in the wave or tight jibes on flat water can carve through the turn with even more stability. The carbon fin simply flexes much more than the G10 variant, thus adapting more smoothly to tighter radii and allowing the flow to detach significantly later. You will be impressed by how radical your turns can be and how soft your ride feels with your board now. Furthermore, the weight advantage of the carbon version is also an argument, especially with the larger fins, this is noticeable. Surfers who value the best planing and "through-planing performance" will not be able to say no to this fin.
