Description

The most important "Wave" fin from Maui Ultra Fins, thanks to its revolutionary design. It is made of very high-quality G10 material. It is incredibly fast and powerful, while having a small surface area. This allows it to turn correspondingly well and cleanly through every "turn". Control is also excellent. It can be used as a "singlefin" or as a center fin in a "thruster setup". Especially suitable for onshore/sideshore conditions or strong winds on flat water.

In contrast to other wave fins, the "X-Wave / X Wave-Carbon" has a more elliptical profile and is significantly less bent backwards. It was assumed that only fins with a lot of backward bend possessed good turning ability. But here, fin designer and founder of Maui Ultra Fins, Rick Hanke, proved the surfing world the opposite by creating this new shape. Because the profile tapers very thinly at the back, even the G10 version has a little flex. Basically, however, the fin is rather harder, meaning it works with little flex. It simply has a lot of power and can be chosen a little smaller than comparable wave fins from other manufacturers. This benefits reactivity and turning ability. The G10 version of the "X-Wave" goes upwind very well and is super fast. Solely due to its hardness, occasional spin-outs can occur when riding a wave if you initiate the cutback with too sudden and too strong pressure. However, until you reach that point, it offers very good grip. That's why Maui Ultra Fins has now also launched a carbon version, so that everyone who loves radical turns in the wave or tight jibes on flat water can carve through the turn with even more stability. The carbon fin simply flexes much more than the G10 variant, thus adapting more smoothly to tighter radii and allowing the flow to detach significantly later. You will be impressed by how radical your turns can be and how soft your ride feels with your board now. Furthermore, the weight advantage of the carbon version is also an argument, especially with the larger fins, this is noticeable. Surfers who value the best planing and "through-planing performance" will not be able to say no to this fin.

FAQ

FAQ

For which conditions is the Maui Ultra Fins X-Wave G10 particularly suitable?

The X-Wave is designed as a wave fin for onshore and sideshore conditions, as well as for high winds on shallow water. It works as a single fin or as the center fin in a thruster setup and impresses with powerful turns, high speed, and clean turning pleasure.

In which fin systems can the X-Wave G10 be mounted?

The fin is designed for the Powerbox and Slotbox (US-Box) systems and is therefore compatible with a wide range of common wave and freeride boards.

In which sizes is the X-Wave available?

The X-Wave G10 is available in sizes from 18 to 32 cm, in 2 cm increments. This allows the fin to be optimally matched to the board, weight, and conditions.

How does the G10 version differ from the carbon version?

The G10 version is stiffer and therefore offers enormous hold, plenty of height in the wind, and high speed. The carbon version flexes significantly more, adapts more smoothly to tighter radii, and reduces spin-outs during very radical cutbacks. In addition, the carbon variant is lighter, which is particularly noticeable with larger fins.

How do I choose the right size of the X-Wave G10?

Thanks to the elliptical profile with a thin trailing edge, the X-Wave can generally be chosen slightly smaller than comparable wave fins from other manufacturers without losing performance. This benefits responsiveness and turning pleasure.

Is the X-Wave also suitable for beginners or light conditions?

The fin is primarily aimed at ambitious wave surfers who appreciate powerful, fast turns. For very light conditions or beginners, a softer, smaller wave fin is recommended.

What should I pay attention to when riding it in the waves?

Due to the stiffness of the G10 variant, spin-outs can occasionally occur with very sudden, strong pressure in the cutback. Those who ride particularly radical turns in the waves or love tight cutbacks on shallow water benefit from the more flexible carbon version.

How do I properly care for my Maui Ultra Fins X-Wave?

Rinse the fin with fresh water after every session, remove sand and salt residue, and check the mount for damage. This maintains the fit in the box and allows the fin to retain its full performance over many sessions.
