What is the Chinook 1-Bolt Tendon Mast Base Euro-Pin EX designed for?
The mast base is a 1-bolt mast foot with a Euro-Pin-EX mount and tendon joint. According to the manufacturer, it was specially developed for foil use and is not recommended for bump & jump, slalom, or formula racing.
What material is the mast foot made of?
The mast foot is made of cast 316 stainless steel, giving it the typical polished stainless steel finish as well as high durability.
How is the mast base attached to the board?
The base is mounted on the board using a twist-on star plate and a single screw (1-bolt). Four ribs on the hinge make manual adjustment easier.
How low does the mast foot sit on the board?
The mast foot sits very low above the deck. The low profile reduces leverage and unwanted opening, for example when water starting with foil boards.
What advantages does the tendon joint offer compared to a purely mechanical base?
The tendon joint provides direct, responsive handling and, according to Chinook, is easy to maintain and replace. Compared to a purely mechanical base, the manufacturer states that approximately 75–80% of fatigue caused by the constant bending of the tendon is eliminated.
Does the base fit my Chinook mast extension?
The Euro-Pin-EX version is designed for extensions with a Euro-Pin-EX mount, as is standard with Chinook extensions. For boards/US-Cup extensions, you need the respective 1-Bolt Tendon version with a US Cup.
How do I clean and maintain the mast foot?
Rinse the mast foot with fresh water after sessions to remove salt water and regularly check the tendon for wear or cracks. Thanks to the shorter ProFlex tendon, it can easily be replaced yourself if necessary.
Scope of delivery and notes
The complete 1-Bolt Tendon mast base, including the Euro-Pin-EX mount, is supplied. Use in disciplines outside of foil use is at your own risk and, according to Chinook, may limit the warranty.
