Description
This is also why it took us almost 2 years to develop the next generation of the IDOL LTD. But in the end, it's the biggest update since its introduction in 2014! But let's take things in order:
Ultralight, but without compromising durability
By reducing the panel layout to its functional core and replacing multi-layer with lighter single-layer high-tech reinforcements, we were able to reduce the weight by another 200 g, making the new IDOL LTD one of the lightest freestyle competition sails. Following our LIGHT DONE RIGHT philosophy, we achieved this without any reduction in foil thickness, so there is no loss of durability. Furthermore, we use our practically indestructible epoxy wave battens, which easily withstand even the hardest wipe-outs.
For all other aspects, our unique BATTEN FREE CENTER concept comes into play. Instead of the usual symmetrical batten distribution, the IDOL LTD has a larger gap between the foot batten and the batten above the boom. Due to the larger batten-free zone, the sail loads much more evenly, which has an enormous impact on performance:
- Wider wind range with earlier planing and faster acceleration, as the sail loads faster. In addition, the sail is easier to control as it can absorb chop and has more flex.
- Much easier ducking, as the sail goes neutral but loads much more gently after ducking. This is completely new compared to the usual radical on-off that you are used to from other freestyle competition sails.
- Increased lift for air moves due to super efficient unloading of the profile.
- Helps the sail to remain streamed to maintain stability.
- Lighter feel due to better release.
All of this sounds like we've found the holy grail of freestyle competition sail design. Well, just try it out and see for yourself!
FAQ
FAQ
FAQ
Who is the Duotone Idol LTD 4.0 designed for?
The Duotone Idol LTD 4.0 is a competition freestyle sail for advanced riders and pros who train air moves, ducking, and fast rotations in smaller wind conditions. Ambitious riders looking to improve will also benefit from its easy handling.
What does Batten Free Center mean on the Idol LTD?
With Batten Free Center, the batten-free zone between the foot batten and the batten above the fork is enlarged. This allows the sail to load more evenly, go neutral when ducking, and offer more lift and comfort without the usual on-off feel.
Is the Idol LTD 4.0 light enough for freestyle tricks?
Yes, thanks to the Light Done Right construction, the weight has been reduced by around 200 g without reducing the film thickness. This makes the Idol LTD one of the lightest freestyle competition sails and enables fatigue-free sessions during hard moves.
How robust is the Idol LTD during hard wipe-outs?
The epoxy wave battens are extremely break-resistant and easily withstand even hard falls. The film thickness has not been reduced, so the well-known durability of the LTD series is maintained.
How does the sail perform when ducking?
The Idol LTD goes neutral in duck jibes and switch moves and then reloads gently and evenly. This gives you a calm, controlled riding experience and more confidence during complex maneuvers.
What wind conditions is the 4.0 size suitable for?
The 4.0 m² size is typical for 4-batten freestyle sails and is suitable for stronger wind or lighter riders. Plan it primarily for use when you are looking for maximum control, pop, and rotation in moderate to strong wind.
How do you properly care for the Idol LTD?
Rinse the sail with fresh water after sessions in salt water, let it dry before rolling it up, and roll it up with the battens tensioned. Avoid aggressive cleaners and direct sunlight when drying to keep the film and seams in top condition for longer.
