Goya - Extension Pro RDM Carbon

FAQ

What is the Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon used for?

The Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon is mounted between the mast and the mast base to increase the effective mast length. This makes it easier to balance and trim larger sails, especially when the existing mast is too short for the desired sail size.

Which masts is this mast extension suitable for?

The Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon is specifically designed for RDM masts (Reduced Diameter Mast). It is available in lengths of 0-32 cm and 0-40 cm and uses the Universal Pin System (Euro Pin), which is compatible with common mast bases.

What does RDM mean for this mast extension?

RDM stands for Reduced Diameter Mast – i.e., masts with a slimmer diameter, as is common with modern freeride, freemove, and wave sails. The Goya Extension Pro RDM is precisely matched to these masts and uses a stepped hole pattern to avoid weakening the mast.

What material is the Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon made of?

The Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon is made of prepreg carbon. This material provides a very good weight-to-stiffness ratio and withstands high loads even with long extension settings and large sails.

What trimming system is built into the Goya Extension Pro?

The Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon features a proven stainless steel power roller (pulley) and a robust cleat. The optimal block-to-block geometry and the large rollers ensure low friction and easy trimming.

How heavy is the Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon?

The Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon in the 0-32 cm version weighs around 560 grams, placing it comfortably in the middle range of comparable carbon extensions. It is stiff and at the same time light enough not to add unnecessary top-heaviness to the rig.

Can I also use the Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon as a Zero Base?

Yes, the adjustment ring of the Goya Extension Pro can be completely removed, allowing you to use the extension as a Zero Base – i.e., without additional extension. When rigging up, make sure to secure the ring with the luff adjuster so that it does not get lost.

Is the Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon compatible with all mast bases?

The Goya Extension Pro RDM Carbon is designed as a Universal Pin model (Euro Pin) and is therefore compatible with common mast bases with a Euro Pin mount. Goya itself recommends the combination with the Goya Base Pro Universal Euro Pin mast base.
