FAQ
What is the Severne FOILGLIDE 3 sail designed for?
The Severne FOILGLIDE 3 is a freeride sail specially developed for windsurf foiling and is expressly not a regular freeride sail with a foil print. It is available in sizes 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 and impresses with its low weight, high center of buoyancy, stable profile and short boom.
How many battens and cams does the FOILGLIDE 3 have?
The FOILGLIDE 3 features 5 battens and 3 RDM cams as standard in all sizes. The cams keep the profile stable, minimize draft movements and thus ensure smooth, steady flight over the foil.
Can I also use the FOILGLIDE 3 with an SDM mast?
Yes, the FOILGLIDE 3 is primarily designed for RDM masts, but can also be used with SDM masts. For this, you simply need to replace the RDM cams with SDM cams, which you can order from your Severne dealer.
Is the FOILGLIDE 3 also suitable for classic fin windsurfing?
The sail can basically also be used as a normal windsurf sail with a fin, but is consistently optimized as a foil freeride sail. For maximum riding pleasure, Severne recommends using it on the foil in light winds.
What mast and boom lengths are recommended for the FOILGLIDE 3?
Severne recommends its own RDM masts in the appropriate length and the Enigma or Metal boom trees. The appropriate luff and boom dimensions are listed in the spec table on the manufacturer's website for each of the five sizes (4.0 to 8.0).
What happens if I rig the FOILGLIDE 3 with too much downhaul?
Too much downhaul opens the top of the sail and can cause it to move more during flight, which reduces stability. For a safe, smooth foil setup, you should stick to Severne's recommended trim settings.
How does the FOILGLIDE 3 differ from the HyperGlide?
The FOILGLIDE 3 is the user-friendly freeride version of the HyperGlide Racer. Both sails share technology and design concept, but the FOILGLIDE 3 is significantly lighter, easier to pump and explicitly designed for comfortable freeride foiling.
What advantages does the short boom offer when foiling?
The short boom positions the sail's center of gravity directly above the foil, makes it easier to adjust your body position and provides more control and more relaxed flights. In combination with the narrow aft section, this allows you to achieve lift in light winds even with a smaller sail area.
