What is the Eckla 10mm steel cable used for?

The Eckla 10mm steel cable is a security cable (anti-theft device) for water sports equipment such as SUP boards, surfboards, kayaks and canoes. It is threaded through a fixed point at the beach, in car parks or at a parking spot and secured with a padlock to reliably prevent theft.

How long is the Eckla steel cable and how thick is it?

This model is 4 metres long. The steel cable has a diameter of 10 mm, the loop is 12 mm, and the crimped eye has an 8 mm hole – so it fits through openings from 12 mm in diameter.

What material is the security cable made of?

The steel cable is made of alloy steel with a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) coating. The plastic coating protects the board and its finish from scratches and makes the cable weather-resistant – perfect for use by the sea.

How is the steel cable attached to the board?

One end of the cable has a looped eye, the other end has a crimped eye with an 8 mm hole. You thread the cable through the eye or the attachment point of your board (e.g. leash plug, carry handle) as well as around a fixed point such as a tree, fence or post and secure it with a standard padlock (not included).

Is the steel cable suitable for salt water and wind?

Yes, the PVC coating reliably protects the steel from corrosion caused by salt water and salt-laden air. This makes the cable ideal for use on the North and Baltic Seas as well as in salt-water areas such as Fehmarn.

Can the steel cable also go through several boards at once?

Yes. Thanks to the slim cross-section of 10 mm or 12 mm at the loop, you can thread several boards or pieces of equipment together and secure them with a lock – practical, for example, in busy surf car parks.

Which lock fits the Eckla steel cable?

For the crimped eye with an 8 mm hole, any standard padlock or shackle lock with a shackle diameter of up to 8 mm is suitable. The lock is not included, so you can choose your preferred security lock.

How do I properly care for and store the steel cable?

After use in salt water, briefly rinse the cable with fresh water and let it dry before storing it away. This keeps the PVC coating flexible for longer and permanently protects the steel core against rust.
